Environmental Policy

“KYOCERA has been banging the ecological drum since Sting was knee-high to a South American grasshopper” said IT journalist Tim Danton back in 2002. In fact, we launched our first ECOSYS printer back in 1992 – the year of the first Earth Summit in Rio - and have been refining and improving the environmental performance of our products ever since.

In addition, we are committed to reducing the environmental impact of both our own business operations and those of our supply chain and channel partner community. We aim to continuously improve our environmental performance and adopt a leadership role in our industry towards promoting more environmentally responsible and resource efficient business. You can find details of our environmental policy in the download bar to the right.

KYOCERA Document Solutions UK's performance against environmental targets

Year on year trends in consumption of key resources are reported here monthly.

KYOCERA Document Solutions (UK) operates an environmental management system that complies with ISO14001. In addition, our carbon emissions are independently verified by The Carbon Trust Standard. For the period April 2010 to March 2011 inclusive our carbon footprint was 446.6 tonnes of CO2 equivalent. In absolute terms this represents an increase of 1.2% year-on-year, but relative to revenue our carbon intensity reduced by 22%.

Our environmental KPIs for the financial year to date (April to December 2011) are displayed here.

We are disappointed that some of these resources show an upward trend. Whilst we always strive to achieve an absolute reduction, all the big wins in carbon abatement were actioned long ago. These figures represent a period when both headcount and revenue increased sharply; therefore on a relative basis we feel that the increase is within tolerable limits. The increase in fuel consumption corresponds to the establishment of a field-based network of service engineers, a role that was previously carried out by third parties. We continue to look for innovative ways of working in a more carbon-efficient fashion to mitigate our impacts, and working with our business partners to influence carbon saving in the wider business community.

Carbon Trust Standard

KYOCERA Document Solutions (UK) operates an environmental management system that complies with ISO14001. In November 2008, we became the first company in our industry sector to achieve The Carbon Trust Standard for our UK head office. This accreditation demonstrates our ongoing commitment to reducing the environmental impact of our operations, and recognises the significant contribution of all our staff towards exceeding our carbon abatement targets.

Our certificate was renewed by the Carbon Trust based on our emissions for the period to the end of March 2011, and is valid until March 2013. We are especially pleased that we managed to demonstrate a reduction in carbon emissions of 10.2% relative to revenue during a two-year period when we enjoyed double digit growth in revenue. (Note that the certificate bears the company's former name of KYOCERA Document Solutions UK.)
