We are a carbon neutral company.

There is no planet B. That's why KYOCERA Group UK is taking climate action today.
Climate action hero image

At the heart of Kyocera founder Dr. Kazuo Inamori's philosophy is the motto, "Respect the Divine and Love People". Guided by this philosophy, we are taking action to offset our UK operation's carbon by working with partners to reforest our paper use and by funding carbon-reducing projects around the world. By carbon offsetting Scope 1+2 and certain Scope 3 GHG-emissions 2021/2022, we are proud to be carbon neutral.

A snapshot of our progress

Here's some highlights of what we've achieved by investing in the Earth as of March 2024.

  • MyClimate

    MyClimate

In 2022-2023 in Tanzania and Burundi, we invested in MyClimate projects that reduced or sequestered 4336 tonnes of CO2, protected 1656.7 hectares of forest (an area 2.5x that of Gibraltar), provided 137 cooking stoves, and helped conserve wildlife.

  • PrintReleaf

    PrintReleaf

We've planted around 15,000 trees through PrintReleaf, covering an area equivalent to 100 tennis courts. We're growing UK native woodland which will sequester carbon and provide habitat for local wildlife.

Kyocera & myclimate

We are offsetting our CO2 footprint through three of myclimate's climate protection projects.

  • Tanzania

Ensuring that indigenous land rights are secured and community land use plans are implemented by establishing forest conservation activities.

  • Burundi

Distribution of efficient cook stoves for displaced people, reducing the amount of firewood used and reducing CO2 emissions.

  • Nigeria

    Nigeria

Replacing inefficient cook stoves being used by the majority of the Nigerian population with highly efficient cook stoves. The project intends to reduce carbon emissions, improve health and reduce deforestation.

What are we offsetting?

Our calculation of KYOCERA Group UK's operational carbon emissions includes:

  • Direct (scope 1) emissions - gas central heating and fuel for company-owned vehicles
  • Electricity-related (scope 2) emissions - a calculation of the emissions generated by our electricity consumption, based on the UK energy grid's mix of energy sources
  • Certain indirect (scope 3) emissions - employees' work-related travel in their own vehicles which is expensed to our business
Carbon neutral print devices & MPS

Carbon neutral printers and managed print services

By working with myclimate, Kyocera can carbon offset any new Kyocera printer, MFP or production printer sold in the UK. We can also offer these carbon neutral machines alongside a carbon neutral managed print service, maximising device uptime and minimising your costs whilst aligning with your sustainability strategy.

PrintReleaf

Reforestation with PrintReleaf

We are reforesting all of the paper used by our UK operations in partnership with PrintReleaf. As these trees grow, they'll provide new habitats for wildlife and absorb carbon from the atmosphere. Visit our PrintReleaf page to find out how many trees we have planted so far on behalf of ourselves and our customers.

TASKalfa Pro 15000c PrintReleaf

Planting new trees in Northern Ireland with the TASKalfa Pro 15000c

As well as reforesting our own paper use, we're reforesting the paper used by customers who purchase our TASKalfa Pro 15000c inkjet production printer. Energy-efficient with water-based inks, the TASKalfa Pro 15000c is a cost-effective, sustainable choice for printing service providers and businesses that require a high-volume, high-capability machine.

Bees

A hive of eco-friendly activity!

Bees are crucial pollinators for a wide variety of plants and are essential for our eco systems. Unfortunately, however, bees and other insects are in decline around the world. That's why Kyocera UK have taken the step of installing new bee hives on top of our Reading HQ! They're hard at work pollinating flowers in nearby parks and gardens, helping nature thrive alongside us.

Putting the environment at the heart of innovation

Kyocera's products are designed with sustainability in mind.

  • Sustainable print technology

Up to 30% of the plastics used in Kyocera products are recycled, and over 99% is recyclable. Download our whitepaper to learn more.

  • Toner take-back service

We offer a return service for all used, genuine Kyocera toner cassettes, to ensure their disposal in the most sustainable way possible.

  • Recycling your Kyocera device

We want to reduce the amount of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) that ends up in landfill.

It's a marathon, not a sprint

Achieving carbon-neutral status is an important milestone for KYOCERA Group UK, but this isn't our final destination. We recognise that we need to reduce our emissions as well as offsetting them. What's more, atmospheric carbon and climate change is just part of the challenge facing us - we all need to reduce our consumption, recycle more and prevent plastic from getting into the environment.

We've already taken some important steps forward. We've adopted fully recyclable packaging for our products, implemented ISO 14001 and introduced a hybrid working policy for our office staff, cutting down on commuting.
