Kyocera product design is based on the 3R philosophy – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. This approach puts an emphasis on long-life design to:
- Help reduce the amount of resources used,
- Reduce the frequency of part replacements and the amount of waste generated,
- Lower power consumption to mitigate emissions of greenhouse gases.
Driving down energy related costs
Every new printer and MFP goes through a rigorous set of assessments to evaluate the impact they have over their entire life cycle to ensure Kyocera products are environmentally friendly.
We do this by quantifying the amount of resources and energy used as well as waste generated at every stage of the life cycle, from raw material extraction through manufacture, distribution, use to disposal/recycling.
Energy Saving Design
Most of the electricity used by printers and MFPs when they are in operation comes from stand-by power or power consumed melting toner on to paper.
Kyocera has developed new technologies that directly benefit the customer such as eco-friendly toner and Intelligent power management to minimise the energy usage across their ECOSYS and TASKalfa product ranges.
Inside the printer
Eco-friendly toner
- This new toner, which can fuse at a temperature 30℃ lower than that of conventional products, has halved the power used when printing from our printers and MFPs.
Intelligent power management
- Kyocera’s energy-saving controller reduces the time it takes to return from Sleep Mode while minimising the standby power used during Sleep Mode.
- The controller has achieved the industry's highest energy-saving performance, with Stand-by Power used during Sleep Mode kept below 0.5 W, without compromising user productivity.
Thinking inside the box
- Kyocera continually review their internal designs too. By simplifying paper paths and improving airflow, Kyocera has more than halved the number of cooling fans and drive motors required inside their latest printers and MFPs.

Standing out from the crowd
Eco-toner
- Kyocera genuine eco-toner fuses on the page at a lower temperature reducing power consumption when printing by up to 50%.
Motion Sensor Detection
- Ready when you are. Kyocera devices automatically wake and power-up when a user approaches. This enables devices to sit in Low Power Mode without impacting performance.
Fewer Fans & Motors
- Streamlined product design has enabled the number of fans and motors to be more than halved, reducing overall power usage and operating noise.
Solid State Drives
- SSDs use about half of the power of conventional HDDs. Where not standard, SSDs are offered as an option across the Kyocera range.
Energy saving power management
Kyocera’s devices include intelligent power management functions, offering several power-level stages and user defined timer settings in which devices use less power than a smartphone charger.**
Intelligent power modes
Low Power Mode
- Low Power Mode kicks-in after 3 minutes* of inactivity for proactive energy savings. Devices only powers-up to Ready Mode on receipt of a print or copy job or fax.
Sleep Mode
- The Energy Saving button allows users to instantly activate Sleep Mode from the control panel, offering greater electricity savings than Low Power Mode.
Auto Sleep Mode
- Kyocera devices automatically switch into Sleep Mode after a designated period of time set by the user.
Weekly Timer Settings
- To get the most out of the energy saving functions, Kyocera devices can switch between Sleep Mode and Ready Mode based on user defined parameters.
Power Off Timer
- Devices can be set to power down completely after a given period of inactivity. In this mode zero power is used.

Energy Star
All Kyocera products are certified Energy Star.
Energy Star products are independently certified to be energy efficient and save up to 35% compared to conventional printers & MFPs by using the least amount of energy when working and more importantly, when they are doing nothing.
The environmental label is internationally recognised and has exacting standards.
They provide information on energy consumption so businesses can make an informed choice and trust that their Energy Star products will help to reduce green house gas emissions during product use and cut energy related costs.
