Gold standard offices
In August 2013, KYOCERA Document Solutions UK moved its headquarters to new larger premises in Reading. This provided the opportunity to create offices with the highest environmental performance, as the building had been vacant for several years and required extensive refurbishment. It was decided to use the Ska rating system, developed by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) specifically for the fit-out of office buildings. Ska rating promotes the principles of sustainable development across an extensive range of criteria and offers certification at three levels - bronze, silver and gold.
At the time the project was carried out, 593 projects had been registered with the Ska assessment programme and only 87 had been certified; of these KYOCERA's Eldon Court offices were only the 31st to receive the gold award. We'd like to acknowledge the expertise and professionalism of Area Sq, whose experience in previous sustainable fit-out projects - including their own Ska gold certified headquarters - was a critical element in achieving this award.
